Lines and Sketches #14

I drew Lili Reinhart a while ago.

If you’re watching Riverdale then you already know she plays Betty Cooper, the girl next door. I love this woman so much it’s not even funny. Haha! Everything she does makes me really happy.

I drew this not expecting any kind of recognition. Let alone from the person I was drawing.

But on 9th April 2017, while I was rocking my niece to sleep, I received a notification on my phone from someone congratulating me. I wasn’t thinking much about it when I realised Lili Reinhart had liked my post.

This was my first time ‘reaching’ to someone using my ‘art’. And it was exhilarating. I tagged her as a joke and my caption was more or less sincere. I mean, if I knew she was going to see it I’d write a more decent caption 😂

It’s pure luck that she had seen that but I’m delighted, anyway. For the next 3 days, I couldn’t stop smiling. I even checked back any time I could to be sure it was real.

Well, it absolutely is.

I guess things like these are the ones I need most right now. I’ve been struggling at validation and self-doubt for so long. This was the boost I needed.

So, to many more portraits and late nights and hard work and red burning eyes and recognition and uncertainty and rejection and failure.

2017 is going to be a good year.

P.S: Amira, if you’re reading this, thank you for all the kind words you’ve said when I needed them the most. Thank you for being a fan of my art. You’re the best best friend anyone could ask for. You are a blessing in my life. 😘💕

Lines and Sketches #11

Today, I drew Jason Segel.

I’m so bad at consistently doing things. 😅 It’s time consuming okay…

19 more portraits. LET’S DO THIS!!!!

Lines and Sketches #10

“I know I left you to be with your art
You always put me first, and somehow that broke my heart
’Cause it’s not my place to choose
My first love, and my only muse.”

Today, I drew Cobie Smulders.

It’s tough to draw every day. This isn’t finished but I wanted to post it anyway. I messed up the left eye. Haha. I’ll probably retouch it and post it again later.

HIMYM soundtrack is soooo good it’s making me sad. I miss HIMYM.

Lines and Sketches #8

Classic Shmosby.

This week, I’ll be drawing the How I Met Your Mother casts. Today, I drew Josh Radnor.

His eyes and ears are a little bit wonky. I’m also mad that I can never draw the hair inside the paper 😂. It’s always out of bounds. And I think I overdrawn his hair too. But Josh’s hair is always that fab.

Anyway, HIMYM was amazing. So amazing that I managed to finish all 9 seasons in 2 months.

I don’t get why people hate the ending, though. I loved it. Although I wished Barney had a better closure.

But hey, you can’t have everything right? It was the writer’s vision of the ending. So, all is well.

Lines and Sketches #7

I drew Freddie Highmore today. I decided not to draw the hands because I’m shit at it.

The first episode of the last season of Bates Motel just aired last Monday. I’m so excited! I have been following that series since the first time it aired.

I am a huge fan of Freddie Highmore since I saw him in The Spiderwick Chronicles. I had the biggest crush on him too. Haha! I still do but it’s more of an admiration kind of crush.

I hope he’ll feature on more movies and series in the future. He’s such a cutie patootie. 😂

BTW this 30 day challenge/habit-making really does work. I think I’ve progressed more in this week than I’ve ever done in the last 3 years.

Lines and Sketches #6

Today, I drew Alexander Vlahos with a wonky hand. Haha.

He once played Mordred in BBC’s Merlin. It was such a great series, sigh. It was one of the first series I’ve binge-watched. Good memories… (And by that I mean, oh the hours I could’ve spent doing something productive. But I don’t really regret it. (Probably will in 5 years)) I freaking cried at the ending too. And I was rooting for Mordred to be the good guy but it didn’t happen. It still hurts to think about the ending…
